Dr. Tom Walker brings more than 20 years of experience in emergency and critical care medicine to Veterinary Specialists of Greater Atlanta. A founding partner of the hospital, he is passionate about building a collaborative approach to practice that unites some of the region’s most experienced veterinary specialists to deliver the highest standard of care for pets and their families throughout the Southeastern US.

Dr. Walker earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a rotating internship at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Canada. He went on to complete a three-year residency in emergency and critical care at Tufts University, becoming board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) in 2005.

Throughout his career, Dr. Walker has combined clinical excellence with a dedication to teaching and advancing the field. He served on the faculty at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, instructing students in toxicology, pharmacology, and internal medicine, and has been a staff criticalist at leading specialty hospitals. In addition, his research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, with notable studies on oxidative stress in dogs with gastric dilatation-volvulus and right heart scoring in pulmonary hypertension.

Beyond civilian practice, Dr. Walker serves in the U.S. Army Reserve Veterinary Corps, where he has held leadership roles, taught AMEDD veterinary courses, and deployed overseas as a regional veterinary clinical specialist. His distinguished service has been recognized with the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Achievement Medal.

Dr. Walker’s professional interests include respiratory failure, cardiovascular emergencies, and the management of multi-system trauma. Above all, he values the ability to collaborate with fellow specialists to provide efficient, effective, and compassionate care for critically ill and injured pets.
