Dr. Alan Cross is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in small animal surgery, research, and education. As a founding partner of Veterinary Specialists of Greater Atlanta, he is committed to delivering advanced surgical care while fostering collaboration as an independently owned specialty hospital for pets in North Atlanta and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Cross earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee, followed by an internship and residency in small animal surgery at the University of Georgia. He achieved board certification through the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1998. His early career included a faculty appointment at the University of Florida, where he also held an associate faculty position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, reflecting his background in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Cross has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed book chapters to leading surgical texts. He has earned multiple research and teaching awards, including recognition from the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. His professional leadership includes serving as President of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, chairing the ACVS Examination Committee, and mentoring numerous residents and graduate students.
In addition to his clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Cross has held leadership roles in hospital administration, focusing on patient safety, medical excellence, and practice growth. He has also combined his interests in medicine and innovation as the owner and CEO of a medical device company.
